We recently shared with you the news about how a breastfeeding mum was thrown out from a Primark shop in Valladolid, Spain, last 12th of August. This has angered a lot of Spanish mums who organized a Tetada (boob protest) in many Primark stores across the country.
The Huffington Post says that the breastfeeding mum, Carmen, was “invited” by a security guard to go to the designated breastfeeding areas located besides the toilets, in order to avoid making customers uncomfortable.
Carmen took to Twitter to complain about what happened, the news spread quickly and other similar cases in Primark came out.
The goal of the protest is to generalize the view that breastfeeding is natural, and nothing to be ashamed of that women need to hide. Even though there are breastfeeding rooms at the store, women should be free to choose if they want to use them or not.
At the moment, breastfeeding mums are not protected by the law in Spain.
In Madrid, about 50 mums attended the protest. The mums where there with and without their kids. One of them even told the media how once she was told ” you look like a gipsy, all day with the boobs out”.
Primark is still declining to make any further comment.
